Why I Gave Up Keeping 100% Of My Commissions To Join EXP Realty

I had a deal that most real estate agents would dream of at 205 Realty. Not only did I keep 100% of my commission income, I got regular leads, and huge autonomy over how I ran things. The owner and broker were fantastic.

I thought I would never leave. It wouldn’t make sense to go anywhere else.

So why did I give that up?

I can sum it up with one word. Growth.

At 205 Realty. I felt a lid on how far I could grow, on my ability to develop agents that want to grow with me. A big part of that lid came from a lack of infrastructure. Brokerage infrastructure is expensive and takes time to build. I believe moving to EXP Realty will blow that lid off permanently.

Not only did I make this move, but our brokerage owner, and most agents made the move after seeing the massive opportunity for growth.

Here’s What I See At EXP Realty

1. It’ll be better for my clients

The first question you should ask when looking to change brokerages is “Will this move help me to provide a higher level of service to more clients?”

For me the answer is a resounding YES. There are three main reasons.

Better support and ability to bring on other agents to help.

At 205 Realty we were limited by back office support. At EXP we can focus on selling real estate and helping agents develop their brokerage and investment businesses. EXP will take care of the back office side of the brokerage.

Massive training

There is no end to what you can learn about real estate. If you’ve read my blog, you know that I’m always learning and reflecting.

The more you know the better you can help clients. EXP offers 40+ high level training’s each week. Utilizing these will help everyone take their game to the next level.

EXP brand

Brand matters in this business. I looked at EXP when I first started studying for my license almost 3 years ago. I thought it was a genius model. However, at that time there were zero agents in the Birmingham market. They had no brand.

Now, it seems the brand has reached critical mass. Top agents are flocking to EXP on a national level. I believe working within that brand will help all of us sell more real estate, and create more satisfied clients.

2. An Opportunity To Work Alongside Top Agents

You’ll be the average of the 5 agents you spend the most time around.

There are a few successful agents that I speak to regularly, but mostly I’ve been figuring it out as I go. EXP is starting to attract many of the best realtors around.

Environment is an essential part of growth. EXP has built an environment that I believe will foster massive growth for those that are pursuing it.

I want to be around agents that push me to be better.

Incentives are aligned to help each other.

There are multiple ways that every agent at EXP is aligned with each other’s success. It’s part of what makes this thing a steamroller in the industry.

I can’t fully explain it in this post, but send me an email if you want to see what I’m talking about.

3. An Opportunity To Build A Brokerage

I recently completed the Alabama Real Estate Brokers course. My plan was to either grow 205 Realty or start my own brokerage.

However, once I started researching what brokers actually do, I ran into a problem.

The problem was that I don’t like paperwork or lawsuits. Brokers spend a lot of time dealing with both of these.

Multiple brokers and people experienced in the industry recommended against being a qualifying broker, or even owning a brokerage at a large scale.

Within EXP, we can focus on the fun parts of the brokerage business and leave the drudgery and risk of back office operations to EXP’s infrastructure.

I see the revenue sharing model at EXP as building a brokerage without the headaches.

We get to do the fun things, like building and developing a community of like-minded agents, without the downsides of traditional brokerage ownership.

4. 100% Commission, But Different

If I hit the sales goals I want to hit, all commissions will be paid back to me in company stock. It’s really like 100% commission at that point.

Incentives can be great motivators.

I’m competitive with myself, and I think this model will really help me drive the growth that I’m looking for.

Thanks for reading! I’m working on a couple ways to add value to realtors interested in the investing side of the business. EXP is a big part of that. If you’re interested in learning more about what’s in the works, send me an email
