I used to watch a lot of CNBC. If you’ve ever watched it, you know there’s all kinds of data and commentary. It’s news, but it can be really entertaining if you’re interested in financial markets. That was basically my vision when I asked Brian if we could do this show.
Tuesday we recorded the 8th “Birmingham Area Market Update” episode on the ALAREIA Masterclass Podcast. I’m thankful to Brian for letting me come on regularly.
It’s been a tremendous period of growth for me. This show is definitely part of that.
I’m glad that people are listening and enjoying it, but this is just the beginning. I think the show can be even better.
What I’ve learned from the show
- I’m not as nervous as I used to be – Speaking into a mic and on Facebook Live is intimidating. As we’ve done more episodes I’ve gotten much more comfortable.
- I get as much from it as any listener – I’m fairly obsessive about risk management. I think keeping track of monthly real estate market statistics is part of that. Doing this show forces me to think about market health for at least a few hours each month. Plus, I enjoy sharing the numbers with other investors.
- People enjoy the color commentary – Brian and I are both active real estate investors. We’re out looking at homes everyday. When I talk to people about the show, its usually not about numbers. It’s usually about our discussion of a neighborhood or deals we’re doing.
- It’s a huge benefit to out of state investors – The majority of investors I speak to about the show are from outside Alabama. Our show gives them a glimpse into what’s happening on the ground here. Our goal is to provide specific insights they can’t find anywhere else.
- The numbers – I’ve never asked Brian about the listener statistics, but on Itunes it looks pretty popular. I’m thankful that people are listening and getting value from the show.
Ideas for improvement
- Bringing even more investor specific data – We’ve started to do this recently with the implementation of the “B Basket.” I’m looking for a way to get even more unique insight into the specific areas we are interested in.
- Pre-announce the recording time – When we record the podcast, we also record a Facebook live video. I think it would be really cool to answer some questions live. To accomplish this, we need to announce the recording ahead of time.
- Integrate the show with the blog – I have a couple ideas to combine data, commentary, and visualizations. I think integrating research on the show and the blog could really add value to both audiences.
- I’m open to other ideas – I’m always open to ideas from other investors. What do you want to know? What research would be interesting to you?
